DNA links Houston policeman to alleged rape

Published 02:45 p.m., Friday, July 20, 2012

HOUSTON (AP) — A Houston police officer accused of sexually assaulting a woman while he was on duty has been linked to the alleged crime via DNA evidence.

Officer Adan Jimenez Carranza on Friday was being held at the Harris County Jail. The 32-year-old’s bond was set at $30,000.

An attorney for him was not listed in jail records.

The Houston Chronicle ( reports that Carranza was charged with aggravated sexual assault after a June 18 traffic accident.

The 39-year-old victim told police the uniformed officer handcuffed her and allegedly raped her in his patrol car’s back seat.

Prosecutors said the Carranza then drove the woman to jail where he booked her for reckless driving.

Investigators say DNA collected from the victim and patrol car’s back seat tied the officer to the assault.

Katherine Jackson, mother of Michael Jackson, reported ‘missing’

Michael Jackson's mother Katherine Jackson arrives at Children's Hospital in Los Angeles, California August 8, 2011. Michael Jackson's three children and mother presented the hospital with a gift of 13 pieces of original art created and signed by the late King of Pop.

Michael  Jackson‘s mother, Katherine, was reported missing to the Los Angeles County  Sheriff’s Department Saturday night.

Katherine’s nephew, Trent Jackson, asked cops to help find the family  matriarch after family members were unable to reach her all week, CNN reported.

Police spokesman Anthony Moore confirmed to the Daily News in a statement  that a report had been filed by a family member who was “concerned for her  well-being.”

The statement said that Katherine “is reportedly with family members” and  deputies are continuing to try to reach her.

Jermaine Jackson said that his mother is doing fine and is simply “resting  up” in Arizona.

“I want to reassure everyone (inc all sudden medical experts) that Mother is  fine but is resting up in AZ on the orders of a doctor, not us,” Jermaine  Jackson tweeted on Friday afternoon.

“This is our mother and her health is paramount. We are not inventing or  plotting anything. We are following doctor’s advice. Period,” he added.

The missing persons report comes after five of Michael Jackson’s  disinherited siblings penned a letter, made public Wednesday, claiming that the  late singer’s will is “fake, flawed and fraudulent.”

Tito, Randy, Jermaine, Janet and Rebbie Jackson accused the King of Pop’s  lawyers of forging Michael’s signature on the will and demanded that they resign  immediately as executors of their brother’s estate.

The cut-out siblings also claimed Jacko’s lawyers lied to get Katherine Jackson  to increase their share of the gross income from Michael’s estate.

“Your actions are affecting her health, and on top of that, we’ve just found  out she recently had a mini-stroke,” the Jacksons wrote.

Katherine Jackson’s lawyer, Sandra Ribera, told CNN that Katherine flew to Albuquerque, N.M. on July 15  to attend a Jacksons brothers concert two days later. She was traveling with her  oldest daughter, Rebbie.

Ribera said that each time Michael Jackson’s daughter Paris tried to reach  Katherine in the past week, she was told that she could not speak to her.

“I’m concerned that [Katherine’s] not safe,” Ribera added.

Paris  Jackson took to Twitter Sunday morning to ask for help in finding her  grandmother.

“Yes, my grandmother is missing. i haven’t spoken with her in a week i want  her home now,” the 14-year-old wrote.

“If anybody sees my grandmother, please call the authorities or this number-  (818)-876-0186 it’s the security’s number .. thank you so much,” she added.

Katherine Jackson has been taking care of Michael Jackson’s three children –  Prince, 15, Paris, 14, and Blanket, 10, – since Michael’s death in June  2009.

Former employee: Pit bull sanctuary where 298 dogs seized was ‘a living hell’

Former employee: Pit bull sanctuary where 298 dogs seized was ‘a living hell’

WILLIS, Texas – Once considered by many to be a reputable sanctuary for an often-misunderstood breed, the Spindletop Pit Bull Refuge is now being seen in a different light.

“It was definitely not a sanctuary. Definitely not. Those dogs were left in a living hell,” former Spindletop employee Brandon Louth said.

Louth said he’s the one who blew the whistle, after witnessing – among other things – 38 dogs dying on one occasion.

“The dogs had suffocated, because the building was not ventilated. The electricity had gone off in the building, and basically I had to bury the dogs, put the dogs in sacks and dig a mass grave for them,” Louth said.

The Humane Society of the United States seized 298 dogs from the seven-acre property Tuesday night, with the assistance of local authorities.

“Many of them are in cramped cages – so cramped they can’t even turn around. They’re living in their own waste. Many of their cages have been shut for so long, we know these dogs haven’t even been out of their cages,” Katie Jarl, with the Humane Society of the United States, said.

“You cannot exist living in your own urine and feces. I watched dogs – we were doing a walk-through – drinking their own urine. A lot of them had absolutely no water, food dumped on feces,” Dr. Tim Harkness of the Houston Humane Society said.

The dogs were being treated and evaluated on Wednesday. Meanwhile, calls have been flooding in from all around the country – calls from people who thought they were doing a good thing by sending the dogs to Spindletop.

“New Jersey, California, all around Texas. I think there were a lot of folks looking for a place to save an animal that has become demonized,” Constable Tim Holifield of Montgomery County Precinct 3 said.

The gates at Spindletop were closed Wednesday, and the founder, Leah Purcell, was nowhere to be seen.

KHOU 11 News did interview her back in 2003 about her pit bulls.

“There’s no reason to be afraid of them. They’re just really friendly, healthy dogs. And they want to please,” Purcell said.

Now, critics are left to wonder what went so terribly wrong with those once-healthy dogs.

If you have taken an animal to the Spindletop Pitbull Refuge and want to inquire about it you are asked to have documents of proof and to email your inquiry to the Montgomery County Precinct 3 Constable at

We join Mt. Hebron Missionary Baptist Church and the greater Houston community he served in mourning the passing to glory on July 10 of Rev. Dr. Johnnie J. Roberson, founder and pastor emeritus of Mt. Hebron.

Dr. Roberson was one of the courageous pastors who always stood for what he knew to be right and against what he knew to be wrong according to Biblical standards, regardless of the cost.  He was one of the key Black pastors who stood publicly and boldly for God’s design of marriage in supporting state Proposition 2 in 2005, among many other issues of righteousness that are his legacy.  His leadership in the pastoral community and the city will be missed greatly. Greetings! In 2010 with your help we took down the Red Light Cameras. It was a citizen-led effort that reminded city government that it is the people, not the politicians that decide the way we will run our city. It could not have been accomplished without the       support of good people like yourself.

And now we need your help again, the City of Houston has passed a law that makes it illegal for you to give food to someone in need. We feel this is a gross violation of your       1st amendment rights and is wrong for the City of Houston. Acts of charitable giving should not be illegal.

Please follow this link to our website: If       you are a City of Houston voter, please fill out the form, print and mail it to: Free To Give Houston, 1701 Lubbock, Houston, TX 77007. If you are not a City of Houston resident you can print out a blank petition on the same page and get as many of your family and friends to sign.

Also, you can join us on Facebook and please encourage your friends to do the same:

We are simply asking that the City Council put this issue before the people.       There has been an unprecedented number of organizations and individuals that oppose this new and unnecessary law. Republicans, Democrats, Independents, and people of all faiths and beliefs. Please join us again and have your voice heard.

We need 20,000 signatures, so that makes your signature essential. Please sign the Petition.

Thank you,
